Chinese Imports - Footwear

EDM number 439 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Meale on 07/07/1992.

That this House is alarmed to learn that in 1991, United Kingdom imports of shoes, leather and non-leather, from China came to 16.8 million pairs, an increase of 53 per cent. on the previous year; notes that in the past two years more than 3,500 jobs have been lost in the British footwear manufacturing industry; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government vigorously to pursue these worrying trends in the interests of United Kingdom home-based shoe manufacturers and their employees.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
