Karachaganak Project
EDM number 437 in 1992-93, proposed by George Foulkes on 06/07/1992.
That this House congratulates British Gas plc. on being selected, in a consortium with Italian state oil company AGIP, by the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, to enter into exclusive discussions with a view to acquiring the economic interest in the giant Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field; welcomes the fact that this development should lead to large new supplies of gas being supplied soon into Europe, with sufficient reserves to sustain production for many years into the next century; notes that the project gives market opportunities for United Kingdom contractors and manufacturers and acknowledges this development as a welcome illustration of the strengthening political and economic links between the United Kingdom and member states of the former Soviet Union.
This motion has been signed by a total of 32 MPs.
