Waiver Of Claim

EDM number 430 in 1992-93, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 06/07/1992.

That this House notes that building societies unfairly discriminated against by the Inland Revenue and the retroactive legislation on transitional arrangements relating to composite rate tax have executed unconditional Deeds of Waiver and Abandonment restricting their claims to the true amounts totalling about ú90 million in dispute in the current cases of judicial review and their writs of restitution; further notes that this House only learned of these Deeds on 6th July and that an Amendment to Clause 63 of the Finance Bill to take account of these Deeds could not be put down before 6th July; and considers it appropriate to exclude their remaining limited claims from the clause to protect the ú15,000 million of tax paid in 1986 to 1990.
