Thomas Cook Ltd

EDM number 378 in 1992-93, proposed by John D Taylor on 30/06/1992.

That this House regrets the policy of the German firm Thomas Cook Ltd. to treat Sterling notes from Scotland and Northern Ireland as being foreign currency in England; deplores the policy of Thomas Cook Ltd. to make the same charge for exchanging Scottish and Northern Irish Sterling notes into Bank of England notes as it does when exchanging foreign currency into Bank of England notes; condemns the advice by Thomas Cook Ltd. to the people of Scotland and Northern Ireland that they should `shop around`, i.e. go elsewhere; and calls upon Thomas Cook Ltd. to treat all citizens of the United Kingdom and Sterling notes within the United Kingdom as equals in rights and values, respectively.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
