Illegal Use Of British Telecom Phone Lines
EDM number 373 in 1992-93, proposed by Roger Godsiff on 29/06/1992.
That this House is appalled by the revelations made on the BBC That's Life programme of 27th June that many customers of British Telecom are having their telephone lines illegally used by other people because British Telecom junction boxes are not securely locked and many of the BT lines are exposed and therefore vulnerable to misuse; and, mindful of the huge profits made by British Telecom since privatisation, the massive reductions in British Telecom engineering staff and the outrageous increases in salaries paid by British Telecom executives to themselves since becoming a public company, calls upon the Government to take action to ensure that British Telecom customers are not swindled due to the failure of British Telecom to make their junction boxes and lines secure.
