48 Hour Week Directive

EDM number 340 in 1992-93, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 24/06/1992.

That this House is appalled that the Secretary of State for Employment has negotiated a deal for Britain at the EC Social Affairs meetings in Luxembourg which blocks the introduction of a maximum working week of 48 hours for all workers for the next 10 years; believes that this is a disaster for millions of workers many of whom are women who work long unsocial hours; notes that the Government have missed an important opportunity to introduce a real improvement in working conditions for British workers; and calls on the Government immediately to reverse this decision.

This motion has been signed by a total of 66 MPs.
