Abolition Of Stamp Duty

EDM number 320 in 1992-93, proposed by Nicholas Winterton on 23/06/1992.

That this House notes with concern the considerable difficulties which are being experienced by homeowners and the construction industry alike as a result of the stagnation of the property market; welcomes the earlier decision of the Chancellor of the Exchequer to suspend stamp duty on the purchase of homes; believes that the reintroduction of this archaic tax would be a major barrier to any possible up-turn in the property market; congratulates Her Majesty's Government on its record of abolishing many different taxes; and urges Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer to seize the opportunity to abolish yet another tax when the current temporary suspension of stamp duty comes to an end in August.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
