Closure Of Rural Police Stations In Wales
EDM number 316 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Carlile on 23/06/1992.
That this House is concerned that the closure of more than 200 rural police stations in four Welsh constabularies will invariably make law enforcement more difficult; fears that this savage retrenchment of a necessary public service will adversely affect the rural Welsh way of life; further notes that this is especially deleterious in light of recent reports on horrific gaol overcrowding; believes that the necessary restoration of public confidence, not only in the police, but throughout the public services, cannot begin if the Government continues to underfund them and make their life increasingly difficult; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to provide rural Welsh constabularies with the necessary resources to carry on their difficult job.
