County Council Elections In Wales
EDM number 297 in 1992-93, proposed by Alun Michael on 22/06/1992.
That this House notes the importance of both democratic accountability and continuity for the delivery of high-quality local government services; considers that it is important for county councils to know either that elections are to go ahead in 1993 in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972 or that the Government intends to delay those elections in order to pave the way for the reorganisation of local government; and calls on the Secretary of State to resolve this doubt either by introducing legislation before the summer recess to delay those elections in Wales or to announce a revised timetable for local government reorganisation in Wales.
