Operation Jackpot - Conduct Of Pc Palumbo

That this House notes that in the trial of Regina v Paul Noel the Judge, His Honour Judge Pitman, considered that PC Palumbo, who is being investigated in Operation Jackpot, was a lying witness in the case which involved the planting of drugs; notes that the Judge directed that the Crown Prosecution Service should investigate and consider the prosecution of PC Palumbo for perjury; calls on the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis to explain why PC Palumbo has not been suspended from duty; and calls on the Crown Prosecution Service and the Director of Public Prosecutions to explain what action, if any, they have taken; notes that in other cases PC Palumbo has himself asked to be cautioned so that he need not answer questions which might incriminate him; calls on the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis to state whether any action, however dishonest, taken by PC Palumbo would produce censure from his peers; and believes that the case of PC Palumbo illustrates the unsatisfactory nature of the way in which this operation is being conducted.
