Cruden Housing
EDM number 284 in 1992-93, proposed by Alex Salmond on 18/06/1992.
That this House recognises the plight of former tenants who have purchased their Cruden type housing from local authorities under the right to buy legislation; notes that these properties are structurally deteriorating and the metal frames supporting them corroding; notes that the owners were never made aware of the problems associated with such housing when buying their homes; notes that the Government has awarded assistance grants of up to 90 per cent. of the repair bills to owners of similar types of housing with concrete frames; supports the Cruden house owners in their campaign for compensation and for this type of housing to be declared defective under the terms of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987; and calls on the Government to immediately extend the grant assistance to Cruden type steel-framed houses.
