Pensioners

That this House is concerned that many pensioners in receipt of the state pension are experiencing severe financial hardship and poverty and that the choice is made daily between paying bills or eating a decent meal; notes that this hardship is also found among many of the pensioners who are also in receipt of occupational pensions; further notes that the time has come when many now fear destitution; and urges the Government to take urgent steps to alleviate pensioner poverty and to reinstate the link between pensions and the rise in average earnings or prices, whichever is the higher, and to bring pensioner income up to a level which is commensurate with th best of the United Kingdom's European neighbours.
