Cancellation Of Meeting Between The Home Secretary And All Party Delegation
EDM number 269 in 1992-93, proposed by Robert Parry on 16/06/1992.
That this House notes with the gravest concern the actions of the Home Secretary in cancelling his meeting with an all party delegation of honourable Members due to take place at 3.45 p.m. on 16th June to discuss the case of Lorrain Osman; notes that the grounds for the cancellation were that he had already, after the most cursory examination of a 200 page submission on the matter, signed the extradition warrant on the morning of 15th June knowing that over 100 honourable Members have expressed their concern in various Early Day Motions and that about 60 honourable Members are awaiting answers to five key questions about the case from him, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary; notes that the Home Secretary was under no legal or other compulsion to sign the warrant; deeply resents the discourtesy against the House implied in the manner in which the matter was handled; and calls on the Home Secretary to answer those questions forthwith and to stay the warrant until he has seen a new delegation.
This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
