SCOTLAND'S WATER AND THE HON. MEMBER FOR HAMILTON

EDM number 2592 in 1992-93, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 04/11/1993.

That this House notes with concern the repeated claims of victory from the honourable Member for Hamilton in the campaign to save Scotland's water from falling into private hands; believes that the Government proposals to remove water from local democratic control clearly represent an attempt to pave the way for future privatisation; recalls that the honourable Member for Hamilton also claimed a premature victory on the mining industry writing in Scotland on Sunday on 3rd January that the closure programme had been 'halted' and urges the people of Scotland to ignore the foolish complacency of the Labour Party leadership and to redouble the campaign efforts to save Scotland's water.
