Foot Transport Of Soldiers At Night
EDM number 2570 in 1992-93, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 02/11/1993.
That this House expresses its sympathy to the parents of Marine Kel Williamson, who was killed when a private vehicle collided with a column of soldiers marching at night on the A53 on 4th June; is concerned that the coroner's inquest revealed (a) that the recommended high visibility jackets had not been in use and (b) that a previous inquest had recommended the prohibition of such foot transport on this stretch of road following a similar incident in 1986; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Defence to institute a public inquiry into this accident and more generally into the procedures followed in the foot transport of soldiers on public roads at night.
