Japanese National Diet Request For Dialogue On Thorp
EDM number 2567 in 1992-93, proposed by Simon Hughes on 02/11/1993.
That this House welcomes the recent open letter from fellow parliamentarians on the Japanese national diet which highlights international concerns over growing proliferation of plutonium; believes that the issue raised, which would be exacerbated by the opening of THORP, is a matter worthy of urgent dialogue by honourable Members of this House; agrees with the suggestion that it is in the mutual interest of the Japanese and United Kingdom Governments to negotiate an acceptable outcome to prevent the production of surplus plutonium; and calls upon the United Kingdom Government to respond positively to this request as a matter of urgency.
This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
