Control Of Fireworks

That this House is alarmed by the fact that from 1st December it will be possible to import from the EC fireworks which do not comply with the British Standard 7114; notes the fears expressed by trading standards officers that proposals for a European Standard to replace the present British Standard are likely to be less stringent and will permit the sale of bangers filled with 'flashpowder', which is five times more powerful than the powder used at present in British bangers and which are capable of removing a human hand if misused; and therefore calls on the Government to take action to ensure that all fireworks on sale in the United Kingdom continue to comply with British Standard 7114.
