Dublin-Belfast Peace Train
EDM number 2549 in 1992-93, proposed by Norman A Godman on 28/10/1993.
That this House warmly welcomes the Dublin-Belfast Peace Train on Saturday 30th October; notes that, even although it was organised before the provisional IRA atrocity in the Shankhill Road, the latest of so-called loyalist-sectarian assassinations and the IRA attacks on the railways in the south of England, the Peace Train participants and passengers, including the Lord Mayor of Dublin, will demonstrate the deep revulsion felt by the overwhelming majority of the citizens in both the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic at the use of political violence and uphold their support for a peaceful society; further notes that the participants will stop at Portadown where they will be welcomed by the Mayor and present a brick as a symbolic act of support for the rebuilding of the Craigavon area after its bomb blitz; and notes that the Peace Train will be welcomed to Belfast by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, representatives of Northern Ireland's 26 council areas, the churches, trades unions and other organisations and that there will be a dignified procession to Belfast City Hall for one minute's silence as a mark of respect for those who have tragically lost their lives.
