Relocation Of Ministry Of Defence Civilian Jobs
EDM number 2538 in 1992-93, proposed by Hugh Bayley on 27/10/1993.
That this House is concerned about the Ministry of Defence's plans to relocate (a) the Army's manning and record offices from York, and other towns, to Glasgow, (b) the RAF Support Management Group, which provides equipment and spares for RAF, RN and Army fixed-wing aircraft, from its current base in Harrogate, to RAF Wyton in the Prime Minister's constituency and (c) Navy provisioning work from the RNSD Eaglescliffe, Cleveland to Bath; sees such relocations as misguided because other more cost-effective options using existing MOD sites and buildings in the current work locations are available which, if used, would avoid the loss of more than 1,200 jobs and would force more than 500 office workers to transfer to other areas to retain employment with the Ministry of Defence; and therefore calls upon the Prime Minister to hold full inquiries into each of these plans before any transfers take place as part of comprehensive review of the current reorganisation of the Ministry of Defence.
