Sulaiman Al-Adsani And The Al-Sabah Family

EDM number 2534 in 1992-93, proposed by George Galloway on 27/10/1993.

That this House is gravely concerned by the allegations in The Independent newspaper and in the London based Arabic newspaper Al-Quds about the torture and threats of murder against British subject Sulaiman Al-Adsani who has been given leave by a British High Court judge to serve writs for compensation upon Sheikh Jabar Al-Sabah and other members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family; notes that Mr Justice Pain disclosed in the High Court that the immediately previous Kuwaiti Ambassador in London warned Mr Al-Adsani that he 'deserved the punishment inflicted upon him' which punishment included having 25 per cent. burns inflicted upon his body such that one year later, in hiding in London he still has to wear protective clothing, and being held repeatedly under water in a swimming pool in which six dead bodies were floating and being whipped with guns; notes that this torture was allegedly inflicted personally by Sheikh Jabar Al-Sabah whose regime was restored to power by allied arms and sacrifice; notes with especial concern a claim, accepted by the High Court, that the then Kuwaiti Ambassador to London warned Mr Al-Adsani's relative that if he did not drop his case he would be killed by Kuwaiti agents operating in the United Kingdom; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to make an urgent statement to the House.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
