Sale Of Jet Aircraft To Saudi Arabia
EDM number 253 in 1992-93, proposed by Harry Cohen on 11/06/1992.
That this House notes with alarm Her Majesty's Government's continued support for the sale of weapons to the Middle East; notes that 232 members of the United States Congress have made clear their opposition to the sale of United States F-15 jet aircraft to Saudi Arabia; notes further that both Democrat and Republican members of Congress have written to the Prime Minister urging him to stop the sale of Tornado jet aircraft to Saudi Arabia; believes that the sale of such weapons does nothing to enhance national security; believes further that increasing the quantity and quality of weaponry in the Middle East damages regional security and can lead to further conflict; and urges that the Prime Minister's rhetoric on controlling the worldwide trade in arms be turned into action by giving a positive response to stopping the spread of arms proliferation in the Middle East.
