Indigenous Lands In Brazil
EDM number 2507 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Meale on 26/10/1993.
That this House views with horror the recent massacre of Yanomami Indians by gold prospectors in Brazil, an occurrence which has re-emphasised and amplified the urgency of pushing forward the demarcation of Indian lands and providing adequate protection to the indigenous Indian population of these areas; sees that presently the Brazilian Government has shown an acute lack of interest in Indian rights, a factor which led to demonstrations in Brasilia on 16th September; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to press the Government of Brazil to fulfil their constitutional obligations.
This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs.
