Success Of Comataidh Telebhisein Gaidhlig

That this House congratulates Comataidh Telebhisein Gaidhlig on promoting and developing greater awareness of Gaelic broadcasting throughout Scotland; notes the support which has been provided by the Scottish Office and Independent Television Commission in establishing the Gaelic Television Fund; welcomes the success of the flagship programmes such as the daily Gaelic news service provided by Grampian Televison, the learners' series 'Speaking our Language', and the popular drama series 'Machair' which has attracted audiences in excess of half a millin people; notes that throughout 1992-93 the CTG has contributed greatly towards training and research, grant aiding programme production and working for the benefit of the Gaelic speaking community in creating a range of acclaimed and well produced programmes; ackowledges the economic impact of the CTG in creating new jobs for Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers across Scotland; appreciates the work which the CTG has carried out in the promotion of Gaelic; and recognises the positive contributions made in 1992-3.
