Investigation By International Transport Workers Federation Into Loss Of Mv Derbyshire

That this House welcomes the decision by the International Transport Workers' Federation to release ú320,000 in order to investigate the cause of the loss of MV 'Derbyshire' with all of her crew; believes that the contribution to establish the cause of this tragic loss of life is a positive response to the growing fears of inadequate regulations governing safety at sea, especially but not only on bulk carriers; and calls on the Secretary of State for Transport to support the initiative taken by the International Transport Workers' Federation and to give full regard to the findings of the investigation by this body in the interest of the bereaved families of the MV 'Derbyshire' crew members and the seafarers' fraternity internationally.
