Stratford Bid For Channel Tunnel Rail Terminal

EDM number 2480 in 1992-93, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 20/10/1993.

That this House calls on the Government to end the uncertainty and say whether they are agreed in principle to a Channel Tunnel international rail terminal at Rainham, Ebbsfleet or Stratford and, if so, which bid has been successful; believes that the establishment of such a terminal at Stratford would gravely damage the environment of the Lea Valley and the London Borough of Hackney through new road building, traffic flows and development; and calls on the London Borough of Newham to withdraw their bid which, though well intentioned, is misconceived in its assessment of the advantages of the creation of such a terminal.
