Consequences Of Excess Vehicle Speed
EDM number 247 in 1992-93, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 11/06/1992.
That this House is concerned about the consequences of excess and inappropriate motor vehicle speed for all road users which is a major contributory factor to road deaths; notes that most pedestrians struck by cars at impact speeds of 30 m.p.h. and over are fatally or seriously injured, while most injuries at speeds of 20 m.p.h. are minor; further notes that too many drivers flout speed limits on all classes of road; and invites the Home Secretary to make plain what he intends to do to improve speed limit compliance and, in so doing, assist the Secretary of State for Transport with his publicity and safety engineering campaigns aimed at reducing vehicle speeds.
