Cervical Smear Tests In Gateshead
EDM number 2450 in 1992-93, proposed by David Clelland on 18/10/1993.
That this House expresses depp concern at the news that 744 women in Gateshead have been given smear tests using unsatisfactory and unreliable methods; believes that the priority must be to ensure that the patients affected are re-tested immediately and the results given in the shortest time practicably possible; welcomes the establishment of a helpline and calls for a full counselling service to be made available; but expresses profound disquiet at the delay in dealing with this matter from the time the Gateshead Health Authority first became aware of it; and calls for an inquiry into how this delay occurred, with the findings of the inquiry being made publicly available.
