Crime In Rural Areas

EDM number 2447 in 1992-93, proposed by Robert Maclennan on 18/10/1993.

That this House notes the fact that the rate of increase in crime in rural areas is now greater than that of urban centres; further notes the particular difficulties faced by police forces in rural areas due to the large distances involved; but condemns the consistent underfunding of such forces which limit the mileage which a police car can travel in any one shift to as little as 20 miles; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to undertake an urgent review into the resource needs of rural police forces, both in terms of manpower and equipment, to redress the imbalance with urban centres.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
