East Timor
EDM number 244 in 1992-93, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 11/06/1992.
That this House notes the sentences of nine and 10 years given to two East Timorese peacefully demonstrating in Indonesia in protest at the Santa Cruz massacre, whereas soldiers firing at the crowd received eight months for disobeying orders; doubts the sincerity of the Indonesian Government, which claims to have investigated the events of 12th November 1991, and its aftermath; notes the strength of concern of 320 British citizens who signed the advertisement placed in last Sunday's Observer by the British Coalition for East Timor; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to suspend aid to Indonesia until the human rights of the East Timorese population are respected and the population is consulted upon their future.
This motion has been signed by a total of 73 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
