Coalfields Communities Report
EDM number 242 in 1992-93, proposed by Win Griffiths on 11/06/1992.
That this House applauds the Coalfields Communities Campaign for highlighting in their report, Orimulsion: The Dirty Option, the threat posed to the environment by the plans of generating companies to burn orimulsion in their power stations which will increase massively sulphur dioxide acid rain emissions compared with coal and oil and lead to a large increase in toxic metal emissions compared with coal; and therefore urges the Government to ban the use of orimulsion in the United Kingdom and to invest in clean burn coal technology which is cheaper and cleaner than orimulsion technology, thus giving coalfield communities a future and the environment a cleaner bill of health.
