Norwegian Christmas Tree

EDM number 2411 in 1992-93, proposed by Tony Banks on 23/07/1993.

That this House calls upon the Department of National Heritage to inform the authorities in Oslo that the annual gift of a Christmas tree to London for display in Trafalgar Square will not be welcome this year following the resumption of whaling by Norway; and believes that Norway's deliberate flouting of the International Whaling Commission requires action to be taken against Norwegian products and tourism and that it is hypocritical and unacceptable to give London a symbol of friendship when Norway is acting in such a barbarous fashion by slaughtering minke whales in the North Atlantic.
