Third World Debt (No. 3)
EDM number 2404 in 1992-93, proposed by Nigel Jones on 23/07/1993.
That this House notes that Her Majesty's Government has given British banks ú2,250 million in tax relief between 1986-87 and 1991-92 on their provisions for third world debt; believes this move has done nothing to help third world countries to deal with the actual problem of debt; regrets the failure of the G7 summit in Tokyo to agree in full the Trinidad terms for debt write off; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to take positive action to encourage United Kingdom banks to write off third world debts and encourage sustainable development.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs.
