Sheehy Report And The Police Service
EDM number 2387 in 1992-93, proposed by Neville Trotter on 22/07/1993.
That this House, mindful of the importance of an efficient, professional police service and mindful of the dedication, hard work and devotion to duty of the men and women serving as police officers, believes that any necessary changes needed to improve efficiency and to help the police in their difficult task of maintaining law and order must be such as to have the general support of the police service, and must seek to maintain the numbers of police officers, attract high calibre new recruits and ensure the maintenance of high morale; and recognises that the Sheehy Report does not represent Government policy, but should form a basis for full consultation with representatives of all ranks in the police service.
