Lifting Sieges In Bosnia
EDM number 2368 in 1992-93, proposed by Calum Macdonald on 21/07/1993.
That this House notes the statement by Larry Hollingworth, head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' humanitarian operation in Sarajevo, that military force should now be used by the United Nations to ensure the passage of humanitarian aid to besieged civilians, and the call from General Phillipe Morillon, former commander of the United Nations Protection forces in Bosnia, that the United Nations should use air strikes to lift the siege of Sarajevo; welcomes the public recognition of the need for a decisive use of military force by the two men with the greatest first-hand experience of the situation on the ground in Bosnia; and urges the Government to change its current policy and to take a leading role in the United Nations in advocating the use of force as called for by General Morillon and Mr Hollingworth.
