WELSH WATER'S INCREASE IN PROFITS, PRICES AND DISCONNECTIONS
EDM number 235 in 1992-93, proposed by Alun Michael on 11/06/1992.
That this House deplores the fact that Welsh Water plc has declared a profit which amounts to 40 per cent. of turnover, while its price levels are being increased by 5 per cent. greater than the level of inflation and its level of disconnections is three times the national average; notes that the company's only defence is to point to the necessary and welcome increase in investment but considers that this in itself constitutes an indictment of Conservative neglect during the past decade; and notes once more that the deliberate shift away from investment by central government leads to a massive increase in the burden on each family in Wales and constitutes a form of privatised tax increase which leaves people in Wales paying through the nose for policies for which they did not vote.
