Merseyside Fire And Civil Defence Authority:withholding Of Inspection Report

That this House, being aware that the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority has repeatedly indicated that its standard spending assessment is inadequate to finance the execution of its statutory responsibilities, notes with alarm that the Home Secretary, after Her Majesty's Territorial Inspector of Fire Services had carried out his routine annual inspection of the Merseyside Fire Brigade in February, deemed it necessary to order a re-inspection following the publication of the 1993-94 budget of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority; is further alarmed therefore at the Inspectorate's refusal to divulge the contents of the report on this re-inspection to the Chairman of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority, or to give a commitment that they will eventually be published; finds intolerable this secrecy over matters relating to the protection of the people of Merseyside against fire and other emergencies; and demands that the Home Secretary should direct Her Majesty's Inspector of Fire Services immediately to disclose the findings of this re-inspection to the chairman of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority.
