Christchurch Railway Services
EDM number 2301 in 1992-93, proposed by Brian Wilson on 12/07/1993.
That this House is appalled to note the cuts in off-peak railway services for Christchurch which are being proposed from October; notes that Christchurch, as part of a shadow franchise area designated by the Secretary of State for Transport, is an early victim of privatisation-related cuts; believes that the slim-down for privatisation is being compounded by the 23 per cent. cut in Government grant to British Rail in the current year; recognises that there will be many more communities suffering cuts in rail services as a result of the Government's privatisation plans and the accompanying reduction in grant; and calls on the electorate of Christchurch to reject the damage being done to British railways by Her Majesty's Government.
This motion has been signed by a total of 77 MPs.
