Government Negotiations On Textiles
EDM number 2272 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Meale on 06/07/1993.
That this House is aware of the great importance the whole of the British apparel and textile industries attach to the current tariff negotiations with the United States of America; views it as essential that an agreement to reduce American tariff peaks on textiles and clothing be achieved in these talks; sees such negotiations as a necessary prelude to wider multilateral negotiations with all other GATT signatories; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to do everything in its power to ensure the maintenance of a tough policy on this issue to help towards a successful outcome to the Uruguay Round of negotiations.
