Iran, Human Rights And Terrorism

That this House voices its deep concern at evidence of further human rights violations by the Government of Iran and at its support for international terrorism and fundamentalism; notes nearly 1,000 anti-government demonstrations and protests in major Iranian cities in the past few months; recalls recent statements issued by 1,500 parliamentarians from 20 countries, including 230 British MPs, and a majority of the members of the US House of Representatives and Senate, condemning such human rights abuses in Iran; recognises the alternative put forward by the National Council of Resistance of Iran; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to put pressure upon the Iranian Government by setting a timetable for an oil and arms embargo, through the UN Security Council, on Iran unless significant changes take place in its human rights record, and unless full access is given to the UN special rapporteur and to humanitarian organisations like Red Crescent.
