Conduct Of Llechwedd Slate Caverns
EDM number 2229 in 1992-93, proposed by Elfyn Llwyd on 29/06/1993.
That this House is concerned at the business practices of Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Blaenau Ffestiniog and its Board of Directors who sanctioned unfair pressure being brought on an employee, namely Carwyn Jones, to agree to a seven day working week from mid-July to the end of August; further notes that the General Manager gave the employee a few days expiring on Sunday 30th May to agree to work seven days without overtime and, because the employee did not respond until he wrote a letter of acceptance on 2nd June, dismissed him on specious grounds that he himself had given deemed notice of intention to leave the employ of the company; calls upon Llechwedd Slate Caverns to have regard for the rights of employees and not to act in a reactionary manner reminiscent of a century ago; and calls upon the Wales Tourist Board to consider whether this company is worthy of the numerous accolades accorded to it of late.
