Contraceptive Pill And Selected List
EDM number 2224 in 1992-93, proposed by Alice Mahon on 28/06/1993.
That this House notes that all right-thinking people, including general practitioners, medical advisers and other professionals, and the 100 strong National Association of Women's Organisations, do not want the contraceptive pill to go on the Selected List; notes that for every ú100 spent on contraception the NHS saves ú500 by preventing unwanted births and abortions; believes that in the Treasury-inspired search for cash savings the Secretary of State for Health is in danger of abrogating her responsibility towards women's health and in danger of making a false economy; defies the Secretary of State to name any organisation supporting inclusion of the contraceptive pill on the Selected List; and calls on her in the interests of all women to withdraw the proposal now.
