Welsh Regional Assistance
EDM number 2207 in 1992-93, proposed by Alan Williams on 23/06/1993.
That this House notes with concern the ominous comment by the Minister of State for Wales that the importance of assisted area status 'should not be exaggerated'; recognises the serious implications of this at the very time when the Government is about to announce the result of its review of regional policy; is aware of the intense pressure to further reduce the benefits of regional assistance to Wales which already has seen regional development grants abolished, special development areas abolished and other forms of regional assistance dramatically reduced by this Government; and warns that, should Wales lose any more of its regional aid, the present and previous Welsh Secretary will be held responsible because of their nonsensical claim that an impoverished Wales is leading Britain out of recession.
