State Of Repair Of Manchester Schools
EDM number 2151 in 1992-93, proposed by Robert Litherland on 14/06/1993.
That this House is appalled at the inadequate capital allocations that have prevented any sustained programme to improve or replace decrepit school buildings in the inner cities in general and Manchester in particular, where the state of some schools is totally unacceptable and the deterioration of the fabric has reached such crisis proportions that it is potentially dangerous and seriously affecting the education of children; and supports the governors and parents in urging the Secretary of State for Education to provide the necessary resources to alleviate the problem caused by the severe and growing backlog of work on the refurbishment of school premises.
