Destruction Of Edinburgh Graveyards
EDM number 213 in 1992-93, proposed by Alistair Darling on 09/06/1992.
That this House deplores the proposal by Freshbright, a property development company set up to develop six graveyards in Edinburgh; condemns the suggestion that war graves be destroyed and that remains would be exhumed and placed in mass graves to clear graves for building purposes; congratulates Edinburgh District Council on its stand against this repugnant form of speculation; and calls upon the Government to make clear its opposition to this proposal and to introduce legislation that would preserve these graveyards both for the sake of relatives of those interred and as part of the history of Edinburgh and its people.
