Nuclear Proliferation
EDM number 2093 in 1992-93, proposed by Llew Smith on 26/05/1993.
That this House congratulates Greenpeace for publishing its report The United Kingdom - The World's Worst Proliferator? and distributing it to all honourable members of Parliament and some members of the House of Lords; believes Greenpeace is correct to point out the hypocrisy of the Government lecturing other states, such as Ukraine, on their nuclear weapons and problems of adherence to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty when the Government's insistence in going ahead with Trident directly contradicts NPT commitments under Articles I and VI of the treaty; further welcomes the report's highlighting of the problems of plutonium proliferation posed by THORP at Sellafield; and calls upon the Government to read and act upon the report's recommendations.
