Norwegian And Icelandic Whaling

That this House condemns without reservation decisions by the Norwegian and Icelandic governments to commence commercial whaling in defiance of the International Whaling Commission; supports the threat of trade sanctions by the United States Administration to be taken against those countries if the slaughter of Minke whales goes ahead; calls upon environmental and animal welfare groups in the United Kingdom to co-ordinate boycott campaigns against Norwegian and Icelandic products and tourism; requests European Community governments to continue with diplomatic pressures on both countries and in particular to reject Norway's application for entry into the Community until unequivocal assurances are given to conform with all IWC rulings; believes that there is no valid economic argument in support of Norway's decision to slaughter Minke whales; and resolves that if Norway is hell-bent on behaving like a nation of butchers they will be treated as such.
