Assembly Of European Regions

EDM number 2061 in 1992-93, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 21/05/1993.

That this House notes that the Assembly of European Regions met in Budapest, Hungary on 30th April; draws attention to the resolution passed by the Assembly which 'notes that the British Government does not intend to create an elected assembly for the region and nation of Wales'; welcomes the statement of the President of the Assembly of European Regions, Jordi Pujol, that historically and culturally, Wales was a region with a strong identity, that it was clear from the meeting that Wales had many friends in Europe, and that the Assembly could do all it would to support the cause of democratic regional government, efficiently run and properly accountable to its people; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to reconsider its position, and introduce a Government of Wales Bill forthwith to secure the establishment of a Welsh Parliament with full law-making and revenue raising powers.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
