Business Lease Reform And Fiona Burns-Brannan

That this House deplores the failure of the Government to reform the outdated and repressive law of privity which allows rapacious landlords to pursue retired people long after they have reassigned the lease with the landlord's full permission; notes that such retired people are often bankrupted by heartless landlords and harassed to their grave; deplores the scandalous and inhuman behaviour of landlady Fiona Burns-Brannan, Merston Manor, Merstone, Isle of Wight, and Christopher Cross of the Plantotal Group, in pursuing disabled retired baker Mr Harry Acaster of Sowerby, Thirsk, and his disabled wife, who reassigned the lease on his shop six years ago with Burns-Brannan's full permission, and is now being harassed for rent owed by the subsequent tenant, and for the landlord's costs of converting the shop into a residence; believes it is a sad reflection on the Conservatives in the 1990s that they can permit such an evil law to continue; and deeply regrets that Mr Acaster's letter to the Prime Minister resulted in him washing his hands of their problem.
