SEAN CONNERY'S VIEWS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN;Amdt. line 1:

EDM number 203A1 in 1992-93, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 09/06/1992.

leave out from 'appalled' to end and add 'that members of the 1992 Labour opposition have seized on a recent misrepresentative tabloid press reference to a 1961 interview with Sean Connery in which he clearly spelled out the unacceptability of violence towards women and also drew attention to the many varied and tortuous ways in which women can be demeaned, notes that SNP members served on both the Select committee on Violence in Marriage and Violence in the Family, the recommendations of which the Labour Government of 1974 to 1979 regrettably failed to implement; looks forward to the day when this extremely serious subject can be dealt with in a dignified manner free from party political prejudice and tabloid press irresponsibility; and regrets the motivation of those who choose cheap and political headlines rather than real social solutions.'.

This is a ammendment to 203.
