International Whaling Commission

EDM number 2024 in 1992-93, proposed by Simon Hughes on 17/05/1993.

That this House congratulates the International Whaling Commission for its steadfast protection of whales and its determination not to allow the resumption of whaling; calls upon the members of the IWC to expedite the setting up of the Antarctic whale sanctuary; condemns all those governments which have threatened to resume whaling; and calls upon the minority of whaling nations to listen to the views of the majority of the international community and not to risk worldwide opprobrium by introducing quotas.
